3 things to consider when choosing your Maternity Photographer

You are pregnant and want this incredible part of your life captured to save in your memory forever. Now where do you start when you are going to choose your maternity photographer? And how do you know which photographer is the right one for you? Choosing your photographer isn’t just about price range and location. Below are 3 things to think about when choosing your maternity photographer.

  1. Where do you want your photos to be done?

Most photographers are specialized in either natural lighting or studio lighting. Which means that they will offer either studio sessions or outdoor/natural indoor lighting sessions. When you imagine the photos in your head, what do you see? Do you see yourself on a mountain hill with the sunset in the background, or do you see yourself in a black and white studio photo? This will make it easier for you to know which photographers you should look for.

2. What style of photography are you drawn to?

Every photographer has their own style. There’s bright airy styles and there’s dark moody ones. Some photographers create their photos to be very bold and colorful, and others create them to be simple with mostly white and nude colors. There’s photographers that are extremely good at pose their clients just the perfect way and there’s other photographers that are specialized in not posing the clients at all but capturing the natural moments. Knowing what style you prefer is going to point you to the photographer that is right for you.

3. When looking at a photographers page, do you feel like you like the person behind the website/social media page?

One factor that has a massive impact on the outcome of your photos is how comfortable you are during the photo session. If you trust your photographer and feel comfortable in front of her camera, that will shine through your pictures. Do you remember having your photo taken in school, where the whole class was lined up and you got 10 seconds in front of the camera? I bet it wasn’t the best photo taken of you, am I right? I don’t know about you, but I definitely wasn’t comfortable in that moment. And the photos always came out awkward. Try finding a photographer that you feel like you trust and she will bring out the best of you!

I hope these 3 questions helps you get a better idea of what kind of Maternity Photographer you are looking for. I am positive that you perfect match is out there, you just need to find her. Good luck in your search for her!
