I’m just gonna admit it, I am a total stroller junkie. I love strollers. When I was pregnant I loved looking at strollers. Even though I already knew which stroller I wanted, I loved looking. The stroller was actually the very first baby item that I bought, and it was also one of the few baby items that I really wanted in a certain more expensive brand. But if you’re not obsessed with strollers, how do you decide which one to get? Here’s a few tips from your stroller maniac.
First of all, start with thinking about how much you will use a stroller, where you will use the stroller and how much and how you will transport the stroller. For example, will you mostly use the stroller on dirt roads and in snow/sand/rain etc, or are you mostly going to walk in the heart of the city on concrete streets? Are you going to move the stroller in and out of the car a few times every day? Will you use it everyday for hours or will you use it once a week? The answer to these questions will guide you to what type of stroller you’re looking for.
If you are going to get the stroller in and out of the car a few times every day, then you’re probably going to want a stroller that is easily folded. If you are going to walk every day for a long time, you will probably prioritize a stroller that is sturdy and easy to push. If you know that you might not use the stroller that much, just a few times here and there for shorter walks, you might not want to get the most expensive stroller. Are you going to need the stroller on dirt roads etc? Then you don’t want a stroller with small wheels but something more sturdy.
There is a thousand different strollers out there, but I’m going just going to talk about two strollers that I’ve tried in different price ranges and styles. One more light weight stroller that is easy to fold for easy travel, and one all purpose stroller. This is just to get you and idea of how I chose my stroller, and why I like certain strollers. Hopefully this get you thinking of what you are looking for!
Bug a boo Cameleon. This is the stroller I have, and I love it. I use my stroller every single day, and I walk everywhere. I live in the city, so I’m always walking on concrete and I’m (normally) in stores and on busses a lot, which means I want a stroller that is very easy to get around with in tight spaces and is easy to get up and down sidewalks. I’ve tried many strollers and this stroller is an absolute joy to push. I know how it feels to walk with a stroller that is hard to push, it makes you not want to go for walks. Since I walk so much, this was my main concern when it came to choosing a stroller. I got the stroller with the bassinet attachment as well, which was super. I can easily be out for 6-7 hours in a row some days, and this allowed Lea to sleep anywhere and I never had to worry about her position, as she was laying flat on her back in the bassinet. The one downside with this stroller in my opinion is that it is a bit harder to fold, it comes apart in two, so folding it to get on a bus is not an option when you’re on your own.
Baby Jogger City mini. This is a light weight, easy to fold stroller that will not break your bank. It’s a stroller that is easy to push and folds fast and easily for you to take it in and out of the car. To be honest, I would like to have this stroller as well, as I’d like a stroller that folds more easily to take on the bus. However, I only want to have one stroller as I don’t have much space for storing two. For a newborn, you want to attach a car seat or bassinet to this stroller. You can get a bassinet attachment and/or a car seat adapter to attach the seat to the stroller.
Besides these two, there are really light weight strollers that are made ultimately for travel, there’s double strollers for siblings and there’s jogging strollers for those who want to run with their babies. Most all-purpose strollers allows you to get accessories as cup holders, snack trays, rain covers etc. Basically, strollers comes in all shapes and forms, and it can take a while to understand which type is going to be a good fit for you. To figure out which stroller you want to go with, start with how and where you’re going to use it. That will take you a long way in your search for the perfect match!
