Sensory bags – great for getting baby to do tummy time!

I recently stumbled over this idea of a sensory bag online, and I absolutely love it. I wish I had tried it when Lea was little. Tummy time can be challenging at times, some babies just hates it and gets frustrated. This idea might help you keep baby occupied and get some time in on their tummy. It is a great sensory game for the little one, feeling the water under their hands and seeing the peas move. Older babies like Lea will enjoy this, but I think it’s an absolute blast for babies who haven’t yet started crawl.

A sensory bag is really easy to create, and there are no limitations for what you can fill it up with. The idea is to fill a ziplock bag up with something fun for baby to explore. In this example I used : water, frozen peas and frozen corn. I simply put some frozen peas and corn together in a ziplock bag and poured a bit of water into it. When closing the bag I left some air in it, but not too much. And try not to get the outside of the bag wet as it makes the next step hard. Tape + water is no good, believe me because I tried!

Once the ziplock bag is ready and filled up, you are going to put it on the floor (or a wall maybe?) and tape it down on all four sides. And that’s it. It’s done and ready for baby to explore!

Lea has started to walk so her play with this sensory bag includes exploring with both hands and feet (and yes, even her mouth as well). And it turns out it’s a great way to practice newfound balance, it’s like a mini balance board. The sensory bag kept Lea occupied and happy for a good 20 mins. And for those of us with a 13 month old, I think most of us will agree that 20 mins is a good amount of time for babe to be focusing on one activity.

I hope you feel inspirated to try this out on your own, and please leave a comment below and let know how your baby liked it if you did!
