Pregnancy week by week: 16 weeks – Are we having a girl or a boy??

Finding-out-the-gender-of-the-baby

I’m writing this week a little bit late because so much has been going on in our lives. My friends from Sweden are here visiting (although not in our house at this very moment). I have had my 16 weeks check-up at the doctor and we have all been sick and just at home together. But let’s try to go through it all! Aaaand, let’s talk about gender, because we know!!

Ok, let’s start with the gender. We did the NIPT test early on and found out the gender at like 12 weeks. I didn’t know this was possible through a blood test, but apparently!

Ok DRUMROLL……

It’s a …. BOY!! We have been pretty convinced that it’s a boy since the beginning. I know it’s not supposed to be true that your symptoms reflect a gender, BUT.. This pregnancy is so dramatically different from my last one, and I personally believe that my body does better with boy hormones. And I think that Lea will be the best big sister ever to a boy!

What’s going on in my body this week?

I have been sick this week (although just a cold) so that has been going on in my body. Besides that, the main thing is – and I’ve been waiting for this – I’ve started feeling movements now! They’re small, inconsistent, and not much for the world, but a lot in my world. I went to the doctor’s appointment this week and asked why all these first time moms in my due date group keep saying they feel movements at like 12-13 weeks, and I feel nothing (as a second time mom!!). Only to come home from the appointment and feel the first little movements. Or the first ones that I could without doubt say was baby and not just farts.

What’s going on in my head this week?

This week has absolutely been all about us being home sick. Lea had a high fever for 3 days, and so I spent the days comforting her and watching her sleep. I haven’t seen her sleep this much since she was a newborn. Poor girl. But she’s better, we’re all better now!

And with us being home sick I’ve had my clients on my mind as well, but that is totally non-relatable to the pregnancy. But it’s been stressful managing all the rescheduling and everything that comes with that.

I feel like I say this every week, but I haven’t had much brains left to think about being pregnant with everything else going on.

What’s going on in our lives right now?

Besides the doctor’s appointment, my friends visiting and being sick – not much else is going on. We bought an infant car seat and two bases this week. This is the first thing we have bought for baby besides the outfit I got after the 13 week scan. I feel like there’s not that much that we need to buy this time around. We have most of what we need already, the car seat was probably the biggest item we had to buy. I went through the boxes I have with clothes that I saved from Lea this week and I realized that what we saved are mostly all summer clothes and very girly, so I think that the main thing we need to get is clothes. And the lesson I learned from last time is – DON’T GET TOO MUCH! They grow out of it so quickly that we didn’t even get to use all the newborn outfits we had for Lea. So I’m not stressed about that.
